What Is Great Poetry

Paris makes me fat—-at a cafe many years ago

Occasionally, my life experiences spur me to write what I think is poetry but it is certainly not to many.

Poetry may be poetry to one but not to another because people view it differently.

Some great poetry appears incomprehensible to me due to my limited understanding of its expressions, its cultures and its history.

I wish I could bathe in the words of a poem, excited, enraptured and enlightened. That will be a remarkable poem.

I wish I could feel the sentiments in the depths of my soul to become better in what I want to do or become. It means the poem has inspired me.

I wish I could reach the level of nirvana where they can light up one’s mind and its potential. It means that poem has power.

I consider it a great poem if when I read the words;

they make my heart sing and my feet dance

they paint vistas in my mind as if I am watching a movie

their narrative awakens my soul and refreshes me.

Some are gifted to write poetry, some are entrusted by Divine powers to write poetry and some experiences life in its myriad ways to write.

I belong to the last group and hope that one day I will make at least one memorable poem.

    Indeed, some are gifted to write beautiful poems, some are entrusted to do so by divine power, while some achieve natural poetic eloquence and excellence thro their sincere, authentic and candid expression of their personal testimonies of their life encounters and experiences , ya, so inspiring and motivating.

    And summer lotus belongs to the last category. always keen to share her life wisdom and experience with others, so that a forlorned and shipwrecked person, seeing shall take heart again.
