25th Nov 2024. I min read poetry
by Rosalind Ho in London 25th Nov 24
The blistering cold shouldn’t be an obstacle to my goals
Even as it makes my teeth chatter, my lips quiver and my legs wobble
I have come here to ‘conquer’
To become braver in my moments of solitude
To step onto the cobble paths of England in the old towns
To bring back the imagination of ancient times
To savour how far civilisation has arrived
Let not any fear nor fantasy nor folly deter me
I am here to learn and grow
I shall be richer by the end of the day

UK was once a far outpost of the Roman Empire, then the Vikings came and took over. Today, London has lost its native character, dominated by other nationalities and illegal immigrants, that render the place as not so safe. Inspite of that, it shows your courage to move around solo, to take in the scenic sites of its countryside.
Thks for sharing your adventure and discovering new things in the remote villages and towns in the blistering cold, a testimony of your extraordinary fitness, strength, confidence and fortitude.
Rosalind says
People used to describe London as old, dirty and dreary. I beg to differ. It is a lovely, bright and exciting city with amazing architecture, interesting history and a food paradise.
To put things in perspective, it can be dangerous in some areas of London, being a metropolis and depicted by social media about some unfortunate incidents.
All countries have their risky areas so it’s best to give these areas a miss or move in groups if one must be curious to check them out. In any case, don’t be flashy as a tourist and interact politely with the locals. It’s hard to antagonise anyone when polite.
By the way, many are legal immigrants and they do their jobs very well. I encountered good services, smiles and dedication and they deserve to enjoy London that offers diversity.
I will be back for sure having encountered and enjoyed modern London as well as being enamoured by the charm of its smaller towns!
