Let nothing ruffle your coat
Life is predictable
It is full of surprises, pleasant and bad
Let nothing make you sad
Do what you can to make it glad
Plow on, plod on, pray on
There will be no end in sight
In future, everything is possible
Look ahead and be accountable

Just when you think you can’t
You can
As in writing poetry
The words do not flow
As the mind is muddled
But…
See the sights
Hear the sounds
Feel the touch
Sniff the waft
Taste if you can
That will evoke the spirit in you
The emotions you are endowed
The sense of gratitude they will elicit
Including the feelings of awe around you
The opportunities to savour life, always

A rapturous moment
The power of the healing sun
Emerges beyond the horizon
Lingering above its clouds
Red, red as it rages
Yet its color pleases
Everything gives sway
As the yolk eases its way
Declaring another perfect day
Come what may
It’s in our hands, this chance to grow
We can choose to flow
I want to be like the rising sun
Warm and glowing
A source of comfort to others
A power in itself, invincible.

Something that makes my heart flutter
Something that heals my broken spirit
Something that gives me wisdom, encouragement, and peace
Something that rejoices me each day
It is not a human being nor a furry pet
Nor a favorite dish
Nor a beautiful scene
Nor money
It is a phrase, a quote or words
That makes utter sense
That enlightens my whole being
To the reality of life, its pain and joy
Words can soothe the mental state
They cradle me into a sound sleep
I yearn to bathe in the glory of words
This is what I am truly in love with…

Dear Brother, we salute you
In the face of death, you slayed it
You refused to allow its slow torturous hands to drag you into its pits
When you knew that your condition was unredeemable, dire, and painless
You made the decision to stop further radical treatment
That would otherwise have delighted Death
Its a bloodthirsty attempt to devastate you more
That would have put you into a senseless stupor
And would drive exceeding pain into your loved ones
Instead, we had precious times with the family in your last days
When you were bright and awake
When you could silently bid goodbye to us
We were inspired by your courage
To live life when living and to let go when dying
Through the windows of the hospital, you witnessed the fireworks of our National Day Parade rehearsal
Life and death are a celebration
That spectacular moment was a fitting curtain call to the good deeds that you had done.

A monologue
Why people ultimately do not get along
Does not require a genius to figure out
In every situation, put yourself in the other person’s shoes
And see things from her perspective
What is good for you may not be good for her
No matter how much you think you are correct
May not appear so to her who makes a personal decision
In fact, overstepping the line of her freedom
Is an utter disdain and disrespect to her
Dispense your advice but do not insist
Give your views and no more
Be gentle and not grating
Then step away and let her nature take its course
She would start to mull over what you have said somehow
She would decipher what is the preferred approach
She would draw nearer to you if she wants to
That is the moment of openness, trust, and acceptance
That is the moment to render your unbearable urge to help
Meanwhile, repel, refrain, and resist the temptation to change others
Do not ask to be snubbed
Leave things be and know when you are not needed
Everything will be alright.
