The cafeteria that I had set foot in

Its cream-colored and warm ambiance beckoned me

I settled for an aromatic coffee

Time to stop being busy as a bee

A Coffee moment is a time for action

It is important for self-reflection

Especially in a cozy cafe like this

With a frontage you couldn’t miss 

As I watched people went by in haste

My world slowed to a steady pace

My thoughts turned clear

The things that I hold dear

What do I want to do

Where do I want to go

What do I want to see

In short, what’s my legacy

I left the coffee house feeling steady

 I felt my pace more steadfast 

As sure as the sun rises

As sure as the moon sets

I am sure I won’t cry

Where there is life there is a struggle

But not on the deathbed

It’s time to reminisce

Be thankful for life thus far

Well-loved, well-lived, well thought

In an amazing world of wonder

It’s time to rejoice

With loved ones and good friends

Times of fun, joy, and laughter well spent

Memories etched forever into our minds

It’s time to bade farewell

And sing songs of mercy and grace

Courage to live and courage to die

Smiling, laughing, and joking on the way out

When you have money, you worry 

That you may not live long enough to spend it,

That you may attract insincere and covetous people to yourself 

That you may be targeted and hence no longer feel safe

That the money may not stay with you forever

It’s a struggle to live

When you have no money, you worry

That you may not be able to see yourself through to old age

That your friends may fear and leave you to avoid troubles

That being poor may lead to suffering especially in sickness

That this life will be a daily grind

It’s a struggle to live

Where there is life, there is a struggle

The question is; Do you buckle?

Or do you live as best as you can

Be like a swashbuckler

Cutting through thistles and thorns of life with your metaphorical sword

Emerging victorious each time as the struggle continues

…..almost there

I woke up this morning, brimming with excitement

So much to thank for every day

There is no war in this country

The air is cool, crisp, and clear

As myriad birds tweet, twitter, and chirp

And fragrant flowers fascinate my five senses

The joy of working awaits me

A few good friends provide company and laughter

A dog to discipline me

No real poverty only that of the mind

Freedom to spend time my way

And extend a helping hand to someone who needs it

That would be my ideal, idyllic, and impeccable lifestyle

Let go of all pent-up annoyances

They are part and parcel of living

Let go of all suppressed anger

Unknowingly, they are simmering

Let go of past hurts as one recalls

Nothing really matters anymore

Let go of any blame and shame

Life is really like a game

A sudden sense of relief does arise

The air will have an element of surprise

The more the world would seem unreachable,  far and wide

The more you explore the world

The more it would seem near, familiar and unthreatening 

The world is wonderful and intriguing

Full of remarkable surprises 

Many lessons to imbibe, much wisdom to cultivate, and many aspects to enjoy

Do not be afraid to step out

As this world awaits us to savour.
